Shane Hulbert
I am an artist, curator and educator specialising in landscape photography. I have a PhD in Fine Art and over 30 years experience in photographic and fine art education, having taught and delivered masterclasses in Australia, China, Hong Kong, England and South Korea.
My work has been exhibited in public galleries and festivals in Australia, China, England, Serbia, South Korea and the US, including the National Gallery of Victoria, Monash Gallery of Art and the Centre for Contemporary Photography in Melbourne.
As an artist and educator I have been exhibiting and speaking at conferences and festivals around the world, which has allowed me to see and experience travel in unique and interesting ways. I have an interest in the connection between history and culture, how our personal understanding of the world changes through the experiences we have, and the way expanding our knowledge of culture can help us become more active and engaged photographers and artists.
If you travel with me you will see that I have a wry sense of humour that informs my photographic projects, and that my curiosity of people, culture and places leads me on interesting and adventurous journies.

I love (live) to travel, whether arriving at the most exhilarating destination, or waiting for 6hrs in a Nairobi bus station (for a bus that never arrived). Travel has been a major part of my adult life. It’s changed over the years, as I have, from sleeping rough on beaches in the south of France as a backpacker to elegant boutique hotels of Paris in more recent years. That said, at heart I’m an adventurer, I hike, getting into the backcountry is always a favourite, and new places, of course with a camera in hand!
I describe myself as a photographer, an artist and educator. I’ve got over 30 years’ experience in the photography industry, 20 in tertiary education and an exhibition practice. In 2008 I was named Hasselblad Master, launching my exhibition practice. Since then I’ve exhibited at galleries and photography festivals around the world, it’s those experiences that have informed the Culture Focus model of incorporating photo festival as part of the tour.
I love photography, I love people, I love travel and I love to share my knowledge, expertise, and experiences.
Looking forward to the next adventure.
